The small Jurassic park

I wrote that my 6-year-old son likes drawing and making something up several times in my blog before.

He made a tiny dinosaur with origami and a paper covering his eraser at the school yesterday.

Furthermore, he made the ground, a tree with red fruits, volcano, river, and grasses.

The little Jurassic park is now completed!

Bright night sky

I got up at 4:30am today.

I hung the landry at the balcony to dry them.

When I went out to the balcony, I noticed that the sky was very bright though it was still dark.

I looked up the sky, I could see very bright two stars in the eastern sky.

And I also saw the moon in the southwest sky.

They were so beautiful and fantastic.

I searched about them on the internet, I found that they were Venus and Jupiter.

I could also see the Winter Triangle in the southern sky.

I like it, especially like Orion very much.

(Orion is the symbol of the Winter and maybe I think it is most famous constellation in Japan.

We can usually see Orion in southern sky from the evening to the night in Winter.)
I felt that the season would be moving Autumn to Winter from now.

I like to look at stars since I was a little child.

I was deeply impressed when I could see the Milky Way at my husband's hometown which is located in country side.

When I am looking at the stars, I can feel that the things I am worried about are small.

I felt comfortable with the astronomical show.

"Tsukimi" ~ Harvest moon ~

I went to work yesterday.

I was so busy that I completely forgot to be going to buy "Tsukimi dango (moon-viewing dumplings)" though it was a harvest moon day.

"Tsukimi" means moon viewing.

Especially we enjoy looking at beautiful full moon and eat "Tsukimi dango"on harvest moon day.

Since my 6-year-old son wanted to eat it, I asked my husband to go to the traditional Japanese sweet shop near my house to buy it.

They bought these↓.

After my husband and I finished dinner earlier than children, we went to the balcony to see the moon.

It was very quiet, but we could also listen to the song of a cricket.

We were filled with deep emotion for a while in the world of the beauty of the natural mysterious profundity.

But we were brought back to earth after our children came up to the upstairs... they were too noisy!

We sang the children's song called "Usagi (a rabbit)".

In Japan, it is common that the light and shade on the surface of the month looks like a rabbit.

My 6-year-old son said,

"I can't wait to eat Tsukimi dango!"

I told him,

"You are like "A dumpling is better than moon!", aren't you?"

I parodied a famous Japanese proverb "A dumpling is better than a flower".

We laughed together.

Tsukimi dango was very yummy!

The sports day ~ One for all, All for one ~

It was rainy 2 days ago, but fortunately, it became sunny and the sports day was held at my 6-year-old son's elementary school yesterday.

It is one of the biggest and important events for families which have elementary school children.

I invited my parents.

Children have lunch with their family, so I had to make a lunch box for my family.

It was hard to prepare lunch for 4 adult and 2 kids.

I went shopping to the supermarket after I finished working last Friday.

Surprisingly, all of chicken meat had already sold out!

I thought that all mothers would cook fried chicken for tomorrow's lunch box.

I had to go to another supermarket to buy chicken meat.

After I finished making lunch box in the morning, I got already tired.

My son got a notice of the sports day last Friday.

It said that the competition for saving a good spot by parents is heating up more and more year by year.

I was surprised to read it and I asked a friend of mine who have 12-years-old boy.

She answered,

"Yes! We can enter school from 7am, but many parents, especially fathers go to school around 6:30am and wait until 7am."

"Really??

I asked my husband to go to school and save a spot for us.

He went there at 6:50, and sent me a text message from there.

"There are already more than 100 people here and they are in line!"

According to him, a teacher came to the school gate at 7am and said,

"I am going to open the school gate from now, but please be careful not to be injured!"

Then parents dashed to save their spots.

He left a plastic picnic sheet and two thermos bottles to save a spot.

Thanks to him, we could watch children from a good viewing spot.

There were three things which I felt happy yesterday.

First, I could see that my son and his classmates were cheering eagerly and they joked together and seemed to be enjoying very much.

I had worried a little whether he had a friend who could play together because he often read a comic alone when I picked him up to the children's house.

There was no need for anxiety.

Next, my son could finish in third out of five in a foot race.

Actually, three boys were picked members for relay of all students.

My son had almost gave up entering within third place.

I told him,

"Don't give up before you run. I think it's important to do your best. I will be happy even though the result would be not good if I can see that you are doing your best."

I am sure that the result was able to encourage him.

My husband shooted a video of my son by digital video camera.

Many parents and grandparents were shooting a video and taking pictures for their children by smartphone, video camera, and digital camera.

It was like a photo session of idol.

Last, my family and parents were glad to eat my lunchbox.

My parents said,

"They are all yummy! It is good to have lunch together under the blue sky, isn't it?"

I got tired but it would become one of  my best memory of the year.

My hideaway

My children want to go upstairs recently.

Because there is their hideaway at upstairs.

It is an attic storage.

Especially my 6-year-old son likes there.

Recently he doesn't watch TV very much.

He goes there soon cheerfully after he finishes his homework.
He sometimes calls his sister to play together there.

Before, I went the attic storage to see them because I was so interested in what they were doing though it was hot and narrow there.

They were playing with toys which I put there before.

My son was also reading comics and drawing pictures.

Since there is no electricity in the attic storage, I told him,

"Don't read books and draw pictures here. It is too dark!"

I know well that children like narrow space.

I used to do like them as a child.

I made my own room with the small cardboard.

I brought my favorite comics and flashlight, and read them in my hideaway.

But my mother advised me saying "Don't read books there. It is too dark. Your vision will be getting weaker!"

It is funny that I also did what my mother did when she was young and my children also did what I did as child.

What a poor mantis!

My children and I went to the park yesterday.

I found a mantis there while we were playing.

Needless to say, my 6-year-old son tried to catch it with delight, but it scrached his hand.

"Hold its neck, and it will not be able to scratch you!"

I taught him how to catch it.

"Do you have a plastic bag? I want to put it in it."

He asked me.

"No, I don't have any bag today! But... How about this one?"

He put it into a empty capsule of Gachapon which I had in my bag.

It was exactly the right size for mantis.

My son got excited and he let the mantis go.

Then my 5-year-old daughter dropped acorns which she found and picked up toward it.

The mantis freaked out and took a fighting pose.

It was so funny that she droped acorns again.

My son caught it and let it go many times.

Another children came to them and enjoy watching it.

Chidren are sometimes cruel to insects!

My son let it go before we went home.

UITEMATE

Since my 6-year-old son asked me to go to swim, my children and I went to the swimming pool yesterday.

It is a heated indoor pool owned by a city, so we can swim there all year around and it is cheap.

It was not crowded though during Silver week.

In fact, I don't like crowded places, so I prefer to stay near my house than go out far during long holidays recently.

When we arrived there, we were able to monopolize the kids pool because there was nobody.

They were so excited and swam with me.

I also practised "UITEMATE".

It means the way of protecting ourselves from a accident at sea, river, lake, pool, and so on, and floating face up in the water to ensure breathing, and to wait for the rescue.

According to the news, this word is Japanese language and it spread out to the world and it became a common word of the world after the Great East Japan Earthquake.

Actually, my husband told me that he had been washed away by rip current and had drifted in the sea for one hour when he was young.

Fortunately he was able to come back to the beach.

I think it was really amazing that he was able to come back alive.

It is difficult for me to float for an hour in the sea, but I want to do it better to protect my life from the accident.

Farm work in Silver Week

My children and I have 5 days off from last Saturday to Wednesday due to Silver week in Japan.

Silver week doesn't happen every year, it depends on an arrangement of the national holidays of each year.

My husband had only one day off yesterday because he is very busy recently and his company has own company's calendar.

We removed almost of all the summer vegetables planted in our garden, and plowed there and planted the seed of sunny lettuce, carrot, and spinach.

My 5-year-old daughter tried to help us, and 6-year-old son tried to catch a small lizard which he found.

He could finally catch it and put it into his cage.

When I passed through the hall this morning, I found he put his cage inside the house.

"Don't put your insect cage at the hall! Put it outside the house!"

The female beetle had opened its loose insect cage lid by itself and escaped at the entrance hall once before.

I never want to encounter a lizard inside my house!

I told him to release it.

Set up my new laptop

I have consulted my husband about purchasing my new laptop since last month because we sometimes wanted to use the computer at the same time.

We finally bought it yesterday.

I set up Windows8.1 and another application software.

I will make a recovery disk from now, and I will try to update it to Windows10.

I need it for my job.

I hope I will be able to finish it without errors.

Let's crack the code written in Japanese!

My 5-year-old daughter wrote me a letter at the nursery school 2 days ago.

It was like a cipher.

It is written like this.

This is my decoding result.

( I will do my best for getting ready for school today. )

The red parts are complete mirror letters.

I really wonder why children write such letters.

In fact, I have not ever taught how to write Hiragana (one of Japanese characters) to my daughter.

She remembers characters by imitating.

Probably it might be still difficult for her to write characters only by her image.

The blue parts are common mistakes.

First one is a mistake of postpositional particle.

わ and はhave same sound (wa) when は is used as a postpositional particle.

Children often mistake this.

Second one has a mistake of a position to put Dakuten (a voiced consonant mark).

We put them on the right upper side of some letters.

Last one, there isn't a point on the upper right side of お.

I could barely read her letter but I didn't point out her mistakes because I thought she did a good job though she is only 5 years old.

I was glad to recieve her letter.

I could imagine that she was writing this letter with heart and soul for me.

Where can I get a reply‐paid postcard?

My 6-year-old son got a newsletter of a free gymnastics lesson which will be held by our city for elementary school students from school before.

I asked him,

"Do you want to join it?"

"Yes!"

I was so surprised because he usually says "No" in such a situation.

It said that we need to apply for it by sending a reply-paid postcard, and in case of too many applications, they will hold a draw for place allocation.

Application cards should be postmarked not later than September 18, but I had completely forgot about it.

"Is it until tomorrow?"

I was so surprised to read the newsletter again yesterday morning.

Of course I knew I can buy a reply-paid postcard at post offices, but there were not on my way to the office.

I searched on the internet and I found some posts which said they bought it at a convenience store.

I stopped by three convenience stores on my way to the office, but they didn't carry it.

I also went to the post office which I found on the map of my car navigation system.

But since its parking area was narrow and already full, I couldn't park there.

I also tried to go to the shop of a post office distributor near my office, but it was closed.

After I finished working, I picked my son up at the children's house and went to the post office near there.

Its parking was also full, but one car went away when we just arrived there and we finally could park and go to the post office.

I never thought that I would have such a hard time to buy a reply-paid postcard.

I sent it this morning.

I was so glad I made it in time!

I hope he will able to join it.

Going my way

My 6-year-old son's friend came over after school yesterday.

He and my son were in the same class at the nursery school, but they are in different classes in elementary school but they are good friends each other.

Before he came, my son came and hugged me saying,

" I need to be charged before he comes."

In his case, the charging means that hugging me.

It was a little surprise for me because it meant that he feels embarrassed if his friend sees that my son nestles up to me.

I realized that he has been growing mentally, too.

His mother took him to my house after I picked my 5-year-old daughter up from nursery school.

I asked her to pick him up around 5pm.

Since I wanted to watch what they do, I stayed out of their way.

After they ate snacks, they started playing with toys.

But they got tired of that after a while, so my son turned the TV on and started watching anime.

They watched Doraemon together, then his mother came to pick him up.

I was interested in what they do together.

To be honest,  even though his friend were with him, my son behaved same as usual.

His friend also seemed not to mind and he behaved as he liked.

Looking at those two, I really can see why they say birds with the same  feather flock together

Both of them do things at their own pace, and they are easygoing.

To be absorbed doing their favorite things even when they are around their friends, I could understand why they get along so well.

An unexpected praise

When we came back home at the yesterday evening, there was a circular notice for our neighborhood association.

t is a notice in a file given by our town. We have to pass it to our next neighbor after we  read it.

My 6-year-old son said,

"I want to bring it to the next neighbour!"

Last time I recieved the notice, I taught him to deliver it to the next house.

Recently I sometimes let my children help me with housework.

If they do something to help me, I give them 10 yen.

I also gave them saving boxes and they save money.

"Push the door bell, and say hello and say "I bring a notice" if someone answers!"

I told him, but he had already run to the neighbourhood's house.

He came back home after a while with a bag of chocolate snack.

"Was the neighbour there? What' that? Perhaps the neighbour gave it to you?"

"Yeah, she gave me this snack. She said I am a good boy who help my mother!"

He looked very glad.

"Good for you! We are very glad when we are praised unintentionally by somebody, don't you?"

After that, he did his homework and prepared for tomorrow's school soon though I said nothing to him.

My 5-year-old daughter looked at him and she also finished preparing her tomorrow's nursery school soon.

They enjoyed eating snack which he got.

I realized that to be praised by someone motivate children.

I know it but it is often difficult for parents because it is easier to scold them than praise them.
I want to become a mother who can praise children well.

I will try my best not to miss my children's good points.

Cooler and cooler

When I got up at 4am yesterday, I felt it was cool.

Since I wore short pajamas, I changed it into long pants.

I prepared my family's pajamas for Autumn season because I can guess that my children won't get up if they feel that it is cool.

The lowest temperature was 20 degrees Celsius (68 Fahrenheit) yesterday.

It is still hot in the daytime, but it is getting cooler at night.

Since we slept by covering with a blanket made of toweling only, we obviously feel  cool.

We can hear crickets singing at night.

Autumn season is coming soon.

A happy family day

My husband and I had a day off yesterday.

Since both of us often work on weekends recently, my family gather together after a long absence.

Our family friend came to our house in the morning and we enjoyed talking together.

Then we went to "Mentai Park" in the afternoon.

It is owned by a long-established company which manifacutures "Mentaiko (seasoned cod roe)".

There are the seasoned cod roe factories where we can observe for free including a direct sales store for seasoned cod roe, a museum and a food court.

My children like the museum very much because it has kids area which has games related to Mentaiko, kids space where children can play, and other high-tech game.

They enjoyed playing there and after that we went to the food court.

We ate big onigiri (rice bowl), a steamed meat bun and asoft ice cream all with mentaiko.

All of them included mentaiko.

They were yummy!

All of us were smiling together, enjoying our holiday.

The holiday that  I spend with all of my family members is really good.

I spent a grand  time with my family.

The great disaster due to torrential rains

I wrote about the typhoon in my blog two days ago. → http://a-o-j-m.blogspot.jp/2015/09/school-is-closed.html

Fortunately we had no damage because of it.

Heavy rain due to an autumnal rain front and the typhoon broke a levee of the Kinugawa river in Ibaraki prefecture on Thursday.

A lot of town were flooded, and many people have evacuated even now.

When I watched the series of damages on TV news, I recalled a similar great disaster which happened 15 years ago.

It is so called "Tokai heavy rain disaster".

September 11, 2005.

It was the last day of my trip to Hokkaido with my friend.

It was sunny at Chitose airport.

When the airplane landed at Nagoya airport, we noticed that it rained heavily.

The airport was already closed, and flights after us had been all canceled.

All public transportation were suspended.

Fortunately my friend had parked her car at the airport, we could go to her house.

Even the large national highway was flooded.

She drove her car at the center of the road, but the rain water rushed into the car like a wave when a big truck passed though next to us.

A car was shaken each time.

It was scary.

I stayed at her house for a night and I went to my office next day.

My boss told me that I may go home.

I left our office with my colleague by car at 1pm, and came home 7pm.

It took about 6 hours because of the terrible traffic jam and dotted broken cars on the road due to the inundation though it usually takes about 50 minutes by car.

Our company's head office building was flooded above the floor level, we have suffered enormous damage.

I don't think the natural disaster is someone else's problem.

It could happen to us.

My thought are with everyone who has been affected by this disaster.

Beautiful Dawn

After my colleague quitted her job, we became busier as we expected.

I have been depressed recently because I was criticized from the customer about our company's  system and I also received a complaint about another staff.

I bought a book about how to manage stress, but reading this book made me more tired and stressful.

I also felt a headache and tiredness, so I thought I need to take a rest more.

Since I felt lack of sleep, I didn't take an online English conversation lesson in early morning to sleep more.

I usually get up at 4am, but recently I got up at 5:30am.

It could improve my psychosomatic bad condition.

I gradually try to get up early, I got up at 4:30am this morning after five days.

When I went to upstairs to hang our laundry, I could see a beautiful dawn.

I was also able to see a crescent moon and Venus in the purple sky.

Eastern sky had gradually becoming bright rainbow colors.

I was deeply impressed with such a beautiful view.

I was mesmerized for a while.

I felt that my trouble is not a big deal.

The power of nature cheered me up.

School is closed?

My children's schools were closed due to the typhoon yesterday morning.

The storm warning was in effect for our city.

Since I told them that the schools would not be closed tomorrow because the typhoon was not so strong, they were so glad to hear that the school was closed.

But school would be open from 1:30pm if the storm warning would be canceled until 11:00am.

After the typhoon made landfall, the wind became stronger.

So all of us thought that the school would be canceled today.

My 6-year-old son and 5-year-old daughter were playing together happily at home.

"It's 11am. I am going to check whether the storm warning is still in effect."
"Please!"

Unfortunately, the storm warning had been already canceled at 10:30.

I told them,

"That's too bad. But it was good that there was no damage."

But my 6-year-old son couldn't contain his anger.

"No! I don't want to go to school! It's your fault!"

"It is NOT my fault! I can't help it!"

I had to wait that his anger settles down.

He went to school at 1:00 pm, and I took my daughter to the nursery school after that.

She didn't get angry with me.

After she reached school, it was the time to take a nap.

She only went to school to take a nap and have an afternoon snack.

Anyway, it was good for us that there was no damage due to this typhoon.

A farewell party

We held a farewell party of our coworker at Japanese food restaurant after we finished working yesterday evening.

( I wrote about my colleague's retirement in my past post. → http://a-o-j-m.blogspot.jp/2015/08/her-last-working-day.html )

All of my colleagues are mothers.

We chose all-you-can-eat and all-you-can-drink.

We ate shabu-shabu, sushi, tempura, and another Japanese food.

I ate them too much but we enjoyed eating and talking very much.

After I came back home, my children said,

"We bought cakes! Let's eat!"

My husband told me that they went to the movie and they bought cakes as a souvenir for me on their way home.

Actually I was already full, but I had to eat it in such situation.

While I was sleeping in midnight, I woke up because my stomach felt heavy and I felt sick.

I took digestive medicine and went to bed again.

But I couldn't fall asleep for a while because I still felt sick.

Everything in moderation.

An easy cooking

I was suffered from a general malaise and sleepiness since yesterday morning.

My husband usually goes to work on Saturday recently.

I felt my way of thinking was changing pessimistic, I thought I needed a help.

I called my mother and asked to come and help me.

( I believe that I'm basically optimistic, but I am sometimes pessimistic when I am very tired.)

Thanks for her help, my children enjoyed playing with her and I could finish my housework.

But after my mother went back home, I was suffered from a general malaise again.

I really didn't want to prepare for dinner, but my children told me that they were hungry.

So I decided to make Udon because it is easy to make and I thought I could eat such a plain food.

I cooked Udon noodles with egg drop soup for my children.

It is their favorite recipe.

And I cooked Udon with natto and okudra.

Both of them are sticky food which are called good for health.

I boiled udon and okura, then cut okura.

Then mixed them with a little noodle soup and dried bonito.

Last, put an egg on the top.

That's all!

It has only three steps.

The procedure is only three.

I sometimes drink beer or something with my husband, I rarely drink alcohol alone,

But I wanted to drink beer yesterday.

I asked my children,

"May I drink beer?"

"Of course, you can!"

They answered.

After dinner, I could recovered my general malaise a little.

I slept longer than usual, I got up at 5am this morning.

I go to work today.

Maybe I will be alright.

What a pity!

When my children and I came back home by car yesterday evening, a boy and his grandfather were in front of our house.

He was my 6-year-old son's friend.

My son was so glad to see him and said,

"Yeah! Let's play together!"

He pulled his friend's arm and was going to take him into our house.

I said hello to his grandfather and asked him,

"But aren't you taking a walk with your grandpa now? "

"We wanted to come here."

He answered.

I looked his grandfather, he was waiting for him with a smile.

"Sorry, since it is already late today, could you come again at the earlier time of another day?"

My son got angry with me and said,

"No! Open the door!"

It was easy to guess what would happen next if I open the key of the entrance door.

In fact, I don't like that someone suddenly come and get into my house without appointment though someone is my children's friend.

Furthermore, it happend almost 5:30pm.

It is my busiest time to do housework.

If I allow his friend to enter the house, I also needed to invite his grandfather.

Of course I couldn't afford to keep him waiting while they were playing.

His grandfatehr told his grandson, "Going home now!"

We said good-bye to them and they went home.

My son still got angry with me.

"Why ... Why are you always so?"

"Will you listen to my reason why I refused?"

He god mad at me too much, so he didn't want to listen.

"I am going to kill myself! Where is the biggest knife in the house?"

When he is in very bad mood, he sometimes says like that though he doesn't understand its meaning at all.

So I tried to regard his suicide declaration as the greatest sadness for him.

"Please don't say "kill myself"."

I tried to stay clam.

I told him,

"I could't allow that they enter our house in today's stuation. It was already late and he was with his grandfather. I have met him once or twice and I talked with him for the first time today. If your friend would come into our house, his grandfatehr also had to come into our house. As I told you before, if you want to play with your friend, please promise in advance."

He said,

"I don't like this house, so I am going to run away from here. Please prepare my food!"

"What are you saying?"

I didn't do anything to him.

Then he started crying.

I guessed that he had another trouble at school.

I hugged him and said,

"OK, let's listen to your story. I guess something bad happend to you at school, right?"

"Yeah, I dropped down from a tree while I was climbing up."

"Were you alone?"

"No, I was with my friend. But since the bell rang, he went back to the classroom before me.
After that, I fell down from the tree. So nobody noticed that I fell down from the tree. I bumped my head."

"Were you OK? Look at your head."

He had no bump but had a scratch on his arm.

"What a pity! I guess that you felt  lonely that nobody noticed your accident. But it was good that your scratch were not so bad. This is the reason you were in bad mood today, isn't it?"

"Yes."

He answered.

"But you had a good thing today. Your friend came to our house because he wanted to see you and play together. What a glad happening for you! Ask him to come to our house at another day. You want to show your beetles, don't you?"

He smiled at me and said,

"I am glad that I didn't kill myself!"
